Eagle Farm horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:53) Ladbrokes Punter Assist Handicap (1400m)
#3 – Bobby Shiraz @ $2.30
Bobby Shiraz is a $250,000 purchase and he comes off a trial win at Rosehill.
The two-year-old son of Savabeel looks to have plenty of ability and racing in Queensland be right up her alley.
Getting the inside draw with 55kg on his back adds to his appeal.
Race 2. (13:32) Mater Little Miracles BM85 (1805m)
#6 – Santero @ $1.60
Santero was too good for them at Eagle Farm last time out and she’s good enough to double down on that effort.
The five-year-old daughter of Hallowed Crown owns a win and a placing from two starts at Eagle Farm, so the form stacks up.
Punters will have to take short odds but she’s worth including in multis.
Race 3. (14:12) Trevor & Judith St Baker BM78 (1600m)
#2 – Cognac @ $6.50
Cognac hasn’t been running at his best this preparation, but we’re prepared to give him another chance.
The six-year-old son of Invincible Spirit is a five-time winner overall, and his recent trial at Rosehill is encouraging.
Money has come for him and that’s another good sign.
Race 4. (14:52) Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Handicap (1600m)
#2 – Sha of Gomer @ $3.20
Sha of Gomer comes off consecutive wins at Eagle Farm and Doomben, so there’s nothing wrong with his form.
The three-year-old son of Shalaa scored by a half-length at Doomben, and punters get better odds than expected.
We expect money to come for him late in the piece.
Race 5. (15:32) Vecchio Property Group BM78 (2200m)
#2 – Tip of the Spear @ $3
Tip of the Spear has been backed and beaten a few times, but we’re prepared to stick with the five-year-old.
The son of Epaulette owns two wins and two placings from eight starts, so his overall record is good enough for this level of racing.
Punters should take the $3 against this field.
Race 6. (16:12) Chemist Warehouse C3 Plate (1400m)
#1 – Fun Sponge @ $6.50
Fun Sponge could soak up the early speed and come out ahead on Saturday.
The Matt Currie-trained five-year-old owns three wins from four starts, and he could bounce back after suffering defeat for the first time at Eagle Farm.
Barrier 11 isn’t ideal but he has ability.
Race 7. (16:52) Pitchers Partners Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Hilal @ $4
Hilal has been racing too poorly to comprehend, but we’re giving him one more chance at this level.
The four-year-old son of Fastnet Rock owns more than $1.3 million in winnings, so the class is there, but he needs a confidence boost.
On his day, he would put up five lengths on this field.
Race 8. (17:32) Ace BM78 (1200m)
#9 – Kipsbay @ $3.10
Kipsbay comes off three consecutive wins, including an impressive 3.3-length win at Rosehill last time out.
The four-year-old son of Capitalist gets all favours off an inside draw and most of the early money has come for the gelding.
We expect the $3.10 to shorten on race day.
Race 9. (18:12) Gotransit Media Group BM85 (1400m)
#8 – Briars Kingdom @ $2.80
Form is with Briars Kingdom, who comes off consecutive wins at Eagle Farm.
The six-year-old gelding is a three-time winner on the track from four attempts, so the form checks out wonderfully.
Getting 1.5kg off his back helps, so put him on top.
