Jayson Tatum points (Celtics at Nets) — OVER 28.5 (-110)

Tatum remains the alpha dog for Boston, the top team in the Eastern Conference. The five-time All-Star averages 27 points per game on the season and 28.8 PPG over his past four games. Approaching the All-Star break, we wouldn’t be surprised if he pours it on to bump his stats up closer to the averages of the other MVP candidates.

Brooklyn has some solid young scorers, but it can’t play defense anywhere near as effectively as the Celtics. The Nets rank well below the league average in points allowed (115.2 PPG), defensive rating (117.0), three-pointers surrendered (13.4 per game), and opposing three-point percentage (38%). Smash the Tatum OVER here.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander points + assists (Thunder at Magic) — UNDER 38.5 (-125)

SGA has been a magician this season, and he deserves his +275 MVP odds (behind only two-time Nikola Jokic at -150). However, this number seems way too high for our liking. He’s coming off a 38-point, seven-assist effort, sure, but he finished below 38 points + assists in OKC’s three prior games and he only averages 36.7 points + assists on the road.

Gilgeous-Alexander also isn’t dishing the rock as much as he has in the past, logging six or fewer dimes in six of the Thunder’s past 13 games and seven or fewer in seven of 13. If we need him to rack up 32 to 34 points to get the OVER, we’re betting the UNDER. The Magic can surprise you — they allow the fourth-fewest points per game (110.8) and have won five of their past six games.
