Hanteo Global, the operator of South Korea’s first-ever music chart, Hanteo Chart, has formed a strategic partnership with China’s Tencent Music Entertainment Group.
On January 30, Hanteo Global announced, ‘We are collaborating with Tencent Music Entertainment Group (‘TME’) to jointly provide and aggregate K-pop data within the Chinese-speaking region.’
TME is a trailblazer in online music entertainment services in China, offering social entertainment services centered around online music. Currently, TME owns four well-known mobile music platforms in China: QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and WeSing, accumulating a broad user base through these platforms.
This collaboration will integrate the physical and digital data consumed on TME’s platforms with the Hanteo Chart. This integration is expected to directly impact the rankings announced within the Hanteo Chart for both China-specific rankings and overall rankings.
The strategic cooperation between Hanteo Global and TME is considered significant, marking a major turning point in the music markets of South Korea and China. The collaboration between Hanteo Chart, a representative music chart for K-pop, and Tencent Music Entertainment Group raises expectations for a new cultural exchange between South Korea and China.
CEO Kwak Young Ho of Hanteo Global expressed his delight, stating, “I am very pleased to announce the collaboration with TME. Currently, K-pop is reaching consumers in China through TME’s music platforms as a top priority.” He further explained the significance of the agreement, saying, “Through this collaboration with Hanteo Chart, TME has not only started providing music services but has also initiated direct sales of albums. Now, K-pop fans in China can securely pre-order, group purchase, and make regular purchases through certified platforms such as QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and HUZFAN Store. This will enhance the visibility of artists in China.“
Additionally, CEO Kwak Young Ho emphasized, “The most important point is that this agreement has created an opportunity to actively establish a cultural exchange platform between South Korea and China.” He added, “Through Hanteo Global’s network in various foreign countries, discussions are underway for various businesses, including connected performances, festivals, events, and advertisements for both K-pop and C-pop. Meanwhile, the Hanteo Chart, as the first music chart in South Korea to lead the market with objective and accurate data, is actively expanding internationally, contributing to the globalization of K-pop.
